Customers deliver significant advancements in Quality of Service, scale and economics by combining SolidFire all-flash scale-out block storage with VMware to build virtual desktop environments

BOULDER, Colo., August 25, 2015

SolidFire, the leader in all-flash storage systems built for the Next Generation Data Center, will be showcasing the benefits of its all-flash scale-out storage solutions for VMware virtualized environments in booth #929 at the upcoming VMworld event, taking place August 30 - September 3, 2015, at the Moscone Center in San Francisco.

Storage has become an anchor holding back progress in the modern, virtualized data center. Until recently, it has been slow, unpredictable and inflexible, requiring far too much operational overhead. Storage capacity and performance are often still locked together in fixed ratios, making it inevitable that even the best-run storage environments will be wasteful and inefficient. While compute and networking have evolved to keep pace with today’s business and IT needs, storage has historically been a limiting factor as a less-flexible component of the data center and a roadblock to guaranteeing storage performance to every virtual machine.

SolidFire provides granular Quality of Service (QoS) controls for its scale-out block storage systems that are uniquely suited to harness the mixed and unpredictable workload profiles that exist in virtualized environments. The virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) is a prime example of one virtual workload well suited for the SolidFire architecture. SolidFire’s ability to guarantee storage performance, dynamically adjust storage resources on the fly without hardware reconfiguration, and linear and non-disruptive scale translates into significant user experience and infrastructure benefits throughout the lifecycle of a VDI deployment. The key to a successful deployment in a real-world VDI use case is a well-planned design in combination with the functionality available from SolidFire’s storage platform.

“Traditional storage systems lack the performance, flexibility and scalability to keep pace with the unpredictable demands of VDI environments as they grow from proof-of-concept to production,” said Dave Wright, founder and CEO of SolidFire. “The performance, quality of service, density and data reduction capabilities of SolidFire’s next-generation storage system have completely changed the economics of the storage infrastructure needed to ensure a successful VDI buildout.”

  • SolidFire’s all-flash scale-out platform eliminates noisy neighbor issues by guaranteeing workload performance.
  • PowerShell and vRealize automation delivers guaranteed storage performance at the push of a button.
  • Horizon View at scale ensures a better VDI experience with storage performance virtualization.
  • Aligning VVols and SolidFire QoS ensures performance guarantees for virtual machines built on VMware Virtual Volumes.
